Unemployment Benefits
If you are unemployed, you may be eligible to receive unemployment benefits from the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB), the Federal agency responsible for administering the railroad Unemployment Insurance Act (RUIA). This booklet provides information about the requirements for receiving railroad unemployment insurance benefits, the amount of benefits payable and procedures for claiming benefits. You can file your application and claims online at the RRB's web site. To use online services you must have a PIN and Password (PPW) account. The Web site explains how to open a PPW account. You can also file your application by printing the forms provided in the following link Unemployment Application Forms. Furlough Form - In the event that you are furloughed, please fill out a furlough form. This form goes directly to the Allied Federation. You can either click on the forms page to the left or click on the following link: Furlough Form Insurance Benefits - Employees that are under the National H&W Medical Plan (GA23000) that have questions about medical coverage, please read the following: Furloughed Employees- If you are furloughed after you became an Eligible Employee AND you have rendered compensated service for three months, you will be covered for Employee and Dependents Health Care Benefits during your furlough until the end of the fourth month following the month in which you last rendered compensated service. If you received Vacation Pay before the date on which you are furloughed, but in a month subsequent to the month in which you last rendered compensated service, the continued coverage described above will be measured from the month in which you received that Vacation Pay. If you return to work as an Eligible Employee before your coverage ends, you will continue to be covered during the month in which you again render compensated service. If you return to work as an Eligible Employee after your coverage ends, you will not be covered again until the month following the month in which you next render the Requisite Amount of Compensated Service.
